Workshop Instructions
All the speakers will be staying in hotel Tamilnadu.
The accommodation for the participants is arranged on a sharing basis
in Hotel Tamilnadu
(Charing Cross Road, Ooty, close to the centre) and Youth Hostel
(Botanical Garden Road, Near Charing Cross, very close to Hotel Tamilnadu). Please check in to these places upon arrival.
Ooty is a small place and you may ask the location of these once
you are in the Ooty town area.
The breakfast and lunch on January 4,5,6,7,8 are in the RAC at
the workshop venue. Dinners from January 3-8 will be in Hotel
Tamilnadu for everyone. There will be a banquet on January 6
the details of which will be provided later. I have not arranged for
lunch on January 3 and dinner on January 8, but there are plenty
of options near where you will be staying. The accommodation is
on till 10:00 hrs. on January 9 from January 3.
The workshop venue is Radio astronomy centre, National Centre
for radio astrophysis, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, PB 8,
Ooty 643001. RAC is about 8 km from the Ooty town centre. You should be able to find directions to this place
by asking people in Ooty centre. We will be arranging buses on the
days of the workshop from the hotels to RAC. If you plan to come
on your own on Monday to RAC, you can also ask for the village
Muthorai from where RAC is 1 km away. The best route in a cab is to take
the Mel-cow-hatty village route via Ooty bus stand-boat house-JSS public
school-Theetukkal and then RAC campus upper gate.
Please carry light winter clothes, as the temperature is supposed to
be 2-3 at nights.
Please carry laptops as we will be having extensive computer
sessions, or else you will have to share with those who have.
The best option to reach Ooty is for sure from Coimbatore and
it is a three hour drive from Coimbatore. From Bangalore there
are plenty of buses, you may check the web page of KSRTC, Karnataka,
to find out the details.
