Research interests: My research activities are in
High Energy Astrophysics of
the end stages of the lives of massive stars and
their compact stellar remnants. In particular, on supernovae and
pulsars and cataclysmic variables
which are white dwarfs in binary systems. The work is an
interaction of theoretical research and observational
efforts. We have often ourselves
proposed and carried out the
latter. More details
of the various sub-areas, are given
here.
Supernovae general interest page (for members of the public
or beginning students): Click here
to see a poster on supernovae (e.g. Crab, SN1987A and SN1993J) and their
connection to stars.
Another general interest article on supernovae: "New stars and cosmic explosions
early in the last millennium", -- in "Mother India", Pondicherry, Sept.,
Oct. 2000. This article recounts how Crab, SN1006, SN1181 were recorded
in ancient chronicles and what was the scene in and around the Indian subcontinent
at that time. Coming soon, but click
here for a preview.
