The user may raise an SRS request for new connection giving all the details like house number, building etc. The user is also needed to fill up a declaration form kept with telephone operator. The user will be handed over the usage policy related documents. The requests will be serviced on first come first serve basis as per availability of free ports and modems. The user will be given the estimated time for connection at the time of request for connection.

The connection will be shifted to the new location as per user requirement. The ADSL modem has to be brought to the institute by the user for reconfiguration of the IP settings. The modem will be reconfigured and returned the same day. Ideally the work of shifting of connection to the new location will be done on the same day.

The concerned persons in the CCCF have to be intimated and the Modem and related hardware like power adapter and connecting cables have to be returned to CCCF (telephone exchange room). If the user is surrendering connection due to completion of his/her service/term in the institute then the No dues certificate for the user by the CCCF staff will be issued only after receipt of the Modem and related hardware.

The Download speed is 1.5 Mbps and Upload speed is 128 Kbps. These are the speed that a user can get between his/her machine (laptop/desktop) and the institute side ADSL system. The actual Download/Upload speeds will depend on factors like the site being accessed, number of users using the link simultaneously etc with the top limit being 1.5Mbps and 128 Kbps.

Parallel connections derived from a single connection will not work. In fact an open ended parallel connection adversely affects the performance of the single working connection. Multiple connections may be obtained from a single connection by using a data switch (for wired connection) or wireless router (for wireless connection) ahead of the ADSL modem.

Following is the proper combination of lights on the modem front panel:

Power light - Will glow solid green (the colour may vary depending upon the make of the modem however it has to stay solid and not be blinking)

ADSL Light - Will glow solid green after booting (the colour may vary depending upon the make of the modem however it has to stay solid and not be blinking)

The modem lights not being normal will indicate a power related or link related fault and the same may be mentioned in the SRS request being raised for fault rectification. This input will help the person attending the fault to be better prepared for solving the problem.

The responsibility of the CCCF staff while attending to a problem will be limited to rectification and demonstration of the proper working of the link up to the ADSL modem. Any user machine (laptop/desktop) related problems will not be the responsibility of the attending CCCF staff. The user has to get the same rectified through their own service vendor.

  • The user may observe and make sure that the modem lights indications are correct.
  • If the user machine is connected to the link through any device like wireless router or data switch which is placed after the ADSL modem then the machine may directly be connected to the ADSL modem bypassing the other devices and checked for working. If the link works then the problem could be with the intermediate device.

The institute internet is extended to the Colaba colony campus with the help of ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology.

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a high-speed Internet access service that uses   telephone line to send and receive Internet data over telephone lines. With ADSL the connection to the Internet is “Always On”. We no longer need to dial up to open the Internet connection. We can even make telephone calls simultaneously along with data connectivity.

Author: VIJAY M NAIK
Last Update: 2016-04-26

ADSL works by splitting the phone line into two frequency ranges. The frequencies below 4 kHz are reserved for voice, and the range above that is used for data. This makes it possible to use the line for phone calls and data network access at the same time.

The "asymmetric" in ADSL refers to the fact that the data being received by the computer from the Internet (downstream data / downloading), travels at a faster speed than data travelling from the computer to the Internet (upstream data / uploading).

  • Splitter – Used to split the voice and data part of the ADSL line located at user premises and provided by institute
  • ADSL Modem – Used for providing data connectivity at user end. Located at user premises. and provided by institute

The loadleveler policy is to ensure that all users are provided with resources to run their job. Depending on the user privilege, job will be queued to that class. An user can run two jobs simultaneously. Execute command .llclass. on management server to see the policy set. As a policy users are not permitted to run jobs directly on compute servers. All jobs have to pass through loadleveler.

A job queue is a list of jobs that are waiting to be processed. When a user submits a job to LoadLeveler, the job is entered into an internal database, which resides on one of the machines in the LoadLeveler cluster, until it is ready to be dispatched to run on another machine.
Submit a sample job, by entering the following command:
llsubmit /opt/ibmll/LoadL/full/samples/job1.cmd

llsubmit: The job "c197blade1b05.ppd.pok.ibm.com.1" with 2 job steps has been submitted.

You have content filtering enabled for this attachment type. Consult your list moderator.

Administrator has to do the following

Use the Content Filtering section and add the correct mime type for the attachment being stripped to the pass_mime_type area. As an example, if your PDF document attachment is being stripped, add application/pdf to the pass_mime_type box and submit your changes. PDF attachments will now be allowed to the list. If you wish, all content filtering may be disabled for your list by choosing No in the Filter Content area.

This document explains how to configure your Linux PC to print to the heavy-duty laser printers in the Computer centre i.e lp3 ( lp3 prints both/dual sides of the paper)  or lp2 (lp2 is single side of the paper) and lp4 (lp4 prints both/dual sides of the paper) which is present in B block first floor B 133.

Requirements:

  • A PC in your office running Linux with Cups or LPRng
  • root  privileges to the computer
  • A working TCP/IP network connection.

First find out which printer daemon is running in the system with the command ps -ax | more. If it is Cups follow Cups procedure. If it is LPRng / lpd follow the LPRng procedure below.

3.  Mount the CD. Information about how to do this for various
types of computers is given on the following page.

4.  Change to the C shell, and set the g09root and mntpnt environment
    variables:
