Introduction
This bulletin includes some detailed information on registration dates and venues, transport arrangements and the social programmes. Registration
Registration of the conference will start on Sunday February 12, 2006 afternoon at 16:00 until 20:00. Registration will also be possible on Monday morning from 08:00 hour and each subsequent mornings for delegates who arrive later in the week.
For the participants attending the Service Challenge workshop from February 10, registration will start on Thursday February 9, 2006 afternoon at 16:00 until 19:00 and will again be on from 08:00 hour on the Friday morning.
For the participants attending the School, registration will start from late afternoon of Friday February 10, 2006 and will continue on Saturday from 08:00 hour.
All registration will take place in the Homi Bhabha Auditorium foyer inside the TIFR premises. There has been an increased security at TIFR these days and all participants are required to carry the conference badge and passport at all times. Badges will be provided to all the participants on their arrival at the hotel (from February 9 afternoon).
Transport Arrangements
Airport pick-up has been arranged for all participants who have informed us
about their hotel arrangements and have given us precise information about
their arrival detail (date, expected time of arrival and flight number). The
Hertz car rental company has been contacted by us and they will organise the
pick-ups. They are provided with the list of conference delegates and they
will be waiting outside the airport terminal building with placards carrying
names of the delegates and some indication of CHEP06 conference. Some of the
terminals also has a Hertz counter near the exit of the terminal building.
There will be arrangements for transfer from the hotel to the conference
venue and back every morning and evening starting from Friday February 10.
People coming to register during the evenings of Thursday or Sunday from the
hotel are advised to take a Taxi. Taxi runs on the meter and the final
charge is approximately 14 times the meter reading.
Participants staying at the Taj President and Fariyas will always be
transported by the respective hotel. Arrangement of buses for delegates
staying in other hotels during February 10-12 is as follows:
- One bus will take the route Ambassador (08:00 hr), Ritz (08:05 hr),
Astoria (08:10 hr), Marine Plaza (08:15 hr), TIFR. Delegates from
Hilton and Sea Green should gather at Marine Plaza.
- One bus will take the route Grand (08:00 hr), Gordon House (08:15 hr)
Diplomat (08:20 hr), Godwin (08:25 hr), TIFR. Delegates from Suba
Palace and Apollo should gather at Gordon House and delegates from
Godwin, Strand and Taj Mahal hotel should gather at Diplomat.
- A third vehicle will take delegates from West End (08:00 hr) and
YWCA to TIFR.
During February 13-17, the arrangement is as follows:
- One bus will bring delegates from Ritz (08:00 hr), Astoria (08:15 hr)
to TIFR
- One bus will bring delegates from Marine Plaza (08:00 hr). Delegates
from Hilton and Sea Green should gather at Marine Plaza.
- Two buses will start from Ambassador (08:00 hr). One will come directly
to TIFR and the other will pick up delegates from West End (08:10 hr)
on the way.
- One bus will take delegates from Grand Hotel (08:00 hr),
YWCA (08:10 hr) to TIFR
- One bus will leave from Gordon House (08:00 hr) to TIFR. Delegates
from Suba Palace and Apollo should gather at Gordon House.
- One bus will leave from Diplomat (08:00 hr) to TIFR
- One bus will leave from Godwin (08:00 hr) to TIFR. Delegates from
Strand hotel should gather at Godwin.
- Taj Mahal hotel will arrange transportation for delegates staying
there.
Social Programmes
Social events for conference are as follows:
- Welcome dinner on the evening of Sunday, February 12, 2006
at the West Lawn of TIFR at 19:30 hr.
- A cultural evening with Classical Indian music recital at 19:00 hr
in the Homi Bhabha Auditorium on Tuesday February 14, 2006 followed
by a dinner at 20:30 hr on the West Lawn.
- Presentation of Classical Indian dance at 19:00 hr in the Homi Bhabha
Auditorium on Wednesday February 15 followed by the conference banquet
at Taj President at 20:30 hr.
- A short tour around South Mumbai from 16:00 hr on Thursday February
16.
- Director's dinner on the evening of Friday February 17 at 19:30 hr.
Registered accompanying persons are welcome to all the above events. In
addition, one foresees the following events:
- A full day tour on Wednesday February 15 to visit some of the
museums and the Elephanta cave temple
- Demonstration of the art of dancing by the same performers at
Taj President hotel on Thursday February 16 during 11-13 hr.
There will be a counter from Travel Corporation of India who can help
you to organise other special tours in and out of Mumbai.
Power Connection
The power supply in India is 230 V, 50 Hz. The most common power sockets
are two pin points (Type C) and three
pin points (Type D) for 5 Amp output.

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is located at the southern end
of Mumbai. It is inside a defence area called "Navy Nagar" and taxi
drivers often understand "Navy Nagar, Colaba" rather than "TIFR"
