Announcement

In concurrence to CHEP06, on 18th February 2006, we announce a one-day workshop on "Moving India into the Global Community through Advanced Netw orking: Science, Education and the Knowledge Economy"

High Performance Networking (HPN) is the key enabler to support engineering data and bandwidth intensive applications. There is a positive correlation between level or degree of sophistication of communications and level of economic growth. The trends in HPN, driven by optical networking technologies have shown unprecedented growth in bandwidth capacity but for the High Performance Computing Applications to benefit from these trends, manifold challenges exist.

India has its prominent position in the High Performance Networking in the Global Map. With the efforts of C-DAC and in the past efforts of ERNET, the road is paved for the next generation network infrastructure in India. We are moving towards a collaborative work across the nation's academic, research labs and universities on a range of network based applications, especially using grid computing enabled collaboration tools and problem solving environment.

The following stakeholders have come together to meet the ends towards this one day workshop.
  • National Knowledge Commission, India
  • Tata Institute for Fundamental Research
  • ERNET, India
  • C-DAC: Centre for Development of Advanced Computing
  • Internet2
  • Internet Educational Equal Access Foundation (IEEAF)
  • World Bank
  • MIT, USA
  • SUMMIT, Stanford University, USA
  • Caltech University, USA
  • University of Pune, India
  • AcrossWorld Communications, Inc.

The workshop will visit the issues, expectations and road man towards a rollout plan to be put in the few months from now.

We invite the Scientific and Research community to contribute their experience, expectation and collaboration towards this current endeavor.
