"Recent results of ion-acceleration from CoReLS petawatt femtosecond laser" by Dr. Prashant K. Singh,Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Korea.


Intense femtosecond laser-solid interaction facilitates acceleration of ion beams with unique properties of ultrashort duration, high brilliance, and low emittance [1]. These features make them suitable for various applications such as, probing of transient electromagnetic fields in high density plasmas[2, 3], fast-ignition scheme of laser driven fusion[4], and for cancer therapy[5]. 

In this talk, recent results of ion acceleration from petawatt femtosecond laser, installed at CoReLS, GIST will be presented. Irradiation of relativistic intense laser pulse with micrometer thick solid foils have led to acceleration of proton beams, with energy extending up to 30 MeV. Specific features of ion acceleration, for instance, symmetric forward and backward ion acceleration, modulated ion spectrums, evolution of non-laminar proton beam and presence of linear intensity scaling of proton energy will be discussed.
