TAA – HARISH - CHANDRA  MEMORIAL  AWARD

for Mathematics and Computer Science

Information

1.         The TAA – Harish - Chandra  Memorial Award will be administered by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) from income derived at present from endowments made to the Institute by the family members of late Prof. Harish-Chandra and the TIFR Alumni Association (TAA).

2.         The award will be called the "TAA – Harish - Chandra  Memorial Award" and will be given for the most outstanding Ph.D. thesis of the year submitted through the Institute on the basis of work done in Mathematics or Computer Science at the Institute.

3.         Object

            The award is intended to serve as an early recognition and encouragement to bright young students who choose to contribute to the building up of the Institute's graduate school.

4.         Prize

            The award shall, at present, consist of a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand only) and a medal.

5.         The award shall be presented by the month of October every year.

6.         For the purpose of the award, the year shall be reckoned from April 1 to March 31 during which the thesis is qualified for the award of the Ph.D. degree.

7.         The award shall be given to one person only.  It shall not be shared between two or more candidates.

8.         In case no award is given in a given year for want of suitable nominations  or for any other reasons, the amount  shall  form part of the corpus.  Upto two awards may then be given in a succeeding year or years.
