Tests of violations of inverse square law of gravity

The group has long standing interest in the testing inverse square law of gravity at short distance scales. The interest started with experiments that looked for the 'fifth force' using torsion balances, tests of equivalance principle in gravity and measurement of short range forces like Casimir force. These experiemnts provide constrains on recent theories of gravity and unification that predict new phenomena in the sub-mm scales. We propose to use the high dispalcement sensititvity of the proto-type Gravitational wave detector ( about 1 × 10−18 m/sqrt(Hz)) , being set up in our lab for measurements of short range forces in the order of 1 × 10−11 N with a sensitivity of better than 1%
