Laser Cooling and Trapping of Neutral atoms

Cold and ultra-cold atoms is one of the most exciting branch of experimental physics these days.  These ultra-cold atoms are possible to used as probes for studying very weak forces such as Van Der Waals force, Casimir force and may be even gravity at short scale. Apart from that ultracold atoms in lattices are used to simulate ideal condensed matter systems. Studies on Mott insulator-superconductor transition, Anderson localization, Bloch Oscillations, BCS-BEC crossover has been studied using ultr-cold atom systems. 


In our lab we plan to use ultra-cold atoms in order to study the foundation of Quantum Mechanics. 

How laser cooling works?
