The site, Hanle - Ladakh


Situated in Jammu&Kashmir, India, at a latitude of 32°46 46 N, longitude of 78°57 51 E and altitude of 4270 m, the site is a dry, cold desert with sparse human population and the ancient Hanle monastery as its nearest neighbour.

In collaboration with Indian Institute of Astro-physics, Bangalore, India, we have commissioned an array of seven telescopes, each with seven front coated parabolic mirrors with PMT XP2268B mounted at the focal point of each of them and observation on crab nebula and pulsar ,Geminga pulsar, AGNs(1ES2344+514 & MKN421) etc are being carried out.

The cloudless skies and low atmospheric water vapour make it one of the best sites in the world for optical, infra-red, sub-millimetre, and millimetre wavelength observations.

Many indigeniously developed modules form the core of the Data Acquisition System used in this experiment along with commercial ones.

The Data Acquisition system have been upgraded recently by adding a parallel DAQ system using commercial ACQUIRIS make digitizer to digitize and record fast pulses for each event.

The ACQUIRIS system continuously digitizes all the eight analog Royal-sum channels at 1G samples/second and recordes the data in the pre and post samples to a valid trigger, it also records the time stamp of each trigger using GPS clock.
