Minutes of the Annual
General Body Meeting of IBS – 2008 held at the Panjab University, Chandigarh on
November 15, 2007
The General Body Meeting of the
Indian Biophysical Society was held at 6.00 p.m. on November 15, 2007 at the
Panjab University, Chandigarh, during the National Symposium on Biophysics. The
following issues were deliberated upon and decisions reached.
- Prof. N. R. Jagannathan,
President, IBS welcomed all the life members and others present in the
meeting. He congratulated Prof. D. K. Dhawan, Prof. F. S. Nandel and their
colleagues for wonderfully arranging the IBS-2008. The GB also congratulated
the local organizers for arranging a wonderful scientific meeting.
- Prof. Chary, Secretary, IBS
read out the Minutes of the Annual General Body meeting of the Indian
Biophysical Society which was held at INSA Auditorium, INSA New Delhi on 13th
Feb 2007 at 17:35 hrs and the same was passed by voice vote.
- In presenting the
Secretary’s report, Prof. Chary, shared the following information with the
members present:
- He said that the IBS
web-site (www.tifr.res.in/~ibs)
is updated.
- The present strength of
the IBS membership is 612.
- The entire Life Members’
Directory was updated as on November 11, 2007 with information available.
- He requested the members
to provide information like e-mail IDs and change of addresses (if any) to
the IBS Secretary.
- He said that address book
is kept at the Symposium registration desk for incorporating any changes.
- He informed that the
minutes of the meetings of EC and GB held during the IBS-2007 are uploaded
in the net for the benefit of the members.
- He also said that an
awards page will be included on the net.
- Regarding membership
certificate, he said that it is proposed that all the members will receive
IBS Membership ID card during the IBS-2009 to be held at CCMB Hyderabad. He
also said that the EC has approved the proposal earlier.
- Prof. S. Basak, Treasurer,
IBS, presented the audited accounts for the year 2007-08, which was approved
by the GB.
- Prof. Jagannathan shared the
details of the guidelines (prepared in consultation with the EC and some of
the past IBS-Presidents) for the benefit of the organizers of future IBS
symposia. GB discussed the points in detail and unanimously agreed upon and
approved the guidelines and suggested that future organizer(s) adhere to all
of them.
- Prof. Jagannathan also
informed the GB that the next East Asian Biophysical Society (EABS) meeting
will be held in Hong Kong in January 2009. He informed the members present
that it was decided by the EC that India will be represented by two members.
One of them would be President of IBS and the other by a senior person which
will be decided by the President of IBS along with the members of EC and
others. Accordingly for 2007-09, Prof. G. Govil and the President of IBS
(Prof. N. R. Jagannathan) will represent India in the council (steering
committee) of EABS for 2007-09. The GB approved the recommendations of the EC.
- Prof. Jagannathan also
informed the GB that Prof Tom L. Blundell, the GNR Memorial Lecture speaker of
IBS - Nov 2008 be offered Honorary Membership of the IBS. This was unanimously
agreed upon by all the members.
- GB was informed as per the
earlier recommendation of EC of IBS, that the IBS-2009 meeting will be held at
CCMB, Hyderabad, some time in January or February 2009. Dr. Ch. Mohan Rao of
CCMB, Hyderabad has expressed readiness to coordinate IBS-2009 and the GB
agreed to his proposal of the EC. Prof. Jagannathan reiterated that the
guidelines prepared for the benefit of future organizers be adhered to.
- The GB was informed that EC
has decided that the Life membership fee will be enhanced immediately after
the next EC & GB meetings in 2009 to Rs.1000/- instead of the present Rs.
500/-. The issue was discussed by the GB at length and approved the same.
- The members of GB were also
informed that proposals for organizing IBS - 2010 will be discussed during the
next EC meeting to be held during the IBS - 2009, which is scheduled to be
held at CCMB, Hyderabad. Any institution or member interested to host the
event is encouraged to submit their proposal to the President/Secretary of
IBS.
