Location
The Indian Institute Of Science (IISc), one of the oldest scientific institutions in India, is located in Bangalore, a tranquil and pretty southern city which has recently metamorphosed as the IT capital of India. Founded in 1909 by J. N. Tata, the IISc has grown to become the premier research institution in this country. LCWS06 will be held in the National Science Seminar Complex located in the picturesque IISC Campus. The Centre for High Energy Physics (CHEP), located on this campus, has been a centre of ILC related activities in India and has set up the Indian Linear Collider Working Group (ILCWG).

Visa
Valid visa is required to enter India for all nationalities. Visa can be obtained from the nearest Indian Consulate/Embassy to you. Upon registration, a letter of invitation will be sent to you. But the easiest way is to request for a tourist visa. Please let us know by email if you face any difficulty in this process.

Currency
Indian currency is in Rupees (Rs.) and the current (September 2005) exchange rate is approximately Rs. 43 = US $1. Exchange facility will be available on campus.

Banks and Shops
Banks are generally open from 10:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs, Monday to Saturday. Some of the Foreign banks are open till 18:00 hrs. There are many banks close to the hotels. Two National banks are located on the IISc Campus.
Shops are generally open from 10:00 hrs to 19:30 hrs Monday to Saturday. Some shops are also open on Sundays. Major shops accept most international credit cards.

Airport
The International Airport of Bangalore is about 20km from the Institute and the hotel(s) where accommodation has been arranged. Besides this, pre-paid (fixed fare) taxi service (special stand in the Airport) is also available (approximate fare Rs. 300). We are trying to arrange a pick up service at a small charge. Please look out for announcements. Please provide flight details (as early as possible) through email at lcws06@tifr.res.in

Weather
The weather in Bangalore in early March is generally mild and pleasant, and between 15-25 Celsius.

Local Transport
Bangalore is well serviced by metro bus and taxi. Shuttle bus will be provided for the participants between hotels and the Institute.

Pre- and post- conference tours on some popular tourist circuits have been worked out in detail for participants. Please see links alongside for details. There is a travel agency on the campus.
