Nanomechanics with nanowires

Nanoelectromechanical Systems (NEMS) are ideal devices for mass and charge sensors, as well as, these devices are potentially good candidates to study the quantum mechanical effects. In our suspended field effect transistor geometry of  InAs nanowire resonators, we have seen and explained non-monotonic dispersion of resonant frequency, mode mixing and hysteretic behaviour of resonator with applied DC gate voltage. Currently we are cooling down these devices to see how the quality factor of resonator changes to study the loss mechanism. We are also studying the single charge effect (like Coulomb blockade) in the nanowire while it is resonating.
