Map of Mumbai
NEW: We now have a clickable link on the left margin
which gives a map of Bombay.
The points of interest like: TIFR, The Hotel Oberoi,
the international airport (at Sahar), the domestic airport (near
Santa Cruz, also near Sahar),
the Chhatrapati Shivaji (railway) Terminus (CST, formerly
the Victoria Terminus) and the Bombay Central (railway) Station are
all marked. Please have a look at it for orientation.
The conference venue, and the guest house are roughly at
the same place, but the Hotel is some 15 minutes automobile ride
away.
Getting to TIFR
Tata Instititute of Fundamental Research, TIFR for short, is at the
southernmost tip of Mumbai (formerly called Bombay). Bombay used
to be a set of islands, but it has now become a peninsula jutting
out from the western coast line of India.
To get to TIFR you should ask for Navy Nagar bus terminus. Once you
get there, someone should be able to guide you to TIFR. The bus
terminus is on Homi Bhabha Road, at the end of which TIFR is located.
(See more details below under "Ramanujan Guest House").
The best way to get to TIFR from anywhere in Mumbai is by taxis. The
taxis run by meter (insist on going by the meter) with a card to map
the figure on the meter to the actual amount you will be
charged. Always ask for the card. There are different rates for day
and night (night=midnight to 6:00am). The night rates are about one
and a half times the day rates. You will be charged extra for luggage.
-
(Check latest cab fares).
From the domestic airport (Santa Cruz), the taxi should charge you
roughly Rs. 270 during the day, and Rs. 400 at night.
- From the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly
Victoria Terminus), a taxi should charge you around Rs. 50 during the
day and Rs. 75 at night.
- From the Mumbai Central Train Station, the taxi should charge you
Rs. 150 during the day and Rs. 220 at night.
- From the Churchgate Train Station, a taxi should charge you Rs.45
during the day and Rs. 65 at night.

Venue of Workshop
All technical sessions of the meeting
will be held in a lecture hall of the Tata Institute at Mumbai.
Ramanujan guest house
This is the Institute
guest house and is within five minutes
walking distance from the venue of the Workshop.
Once you get to
the TIFR main gate, you should ask for Ramanujan guest house; someone
will guide you.
To get to TIFR tell the taxi driver to take
you to "Navy Nagar" near Colaba. A landmark on the way to TIFR is the
Hotel President in Colaba. Once you reach Hotel President, ask
the driver to continue in the same direction (i.e. south) towards Navy
Nagar. About a kilometre after Hotel President, you will see
Sagarika guest house on your right. It is on the same road as Hotel
President.
To get to TIFR from Sagarika, you have
to turn right at the circle immediately to the south of Sagarika. You
will then be on the Homi Bhabha Road. Continue on it until the road ends,
and TIFR main gate is on your left.
City Hotel
Since the number of participants
who can be accommodated on campus or nearby is quite limited,
several of them will have to be accommodated in a city hotel.
This Hotel Oberoi is within about 15 minutes car/bus ride from TIFR.
It is located at Nariman Point on Marine Drive in South
Bombay and is next to two major landmarks in the city: the Air-India
Building and the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) and
is on the western seafront (as also is the TIFR campus, but further
down south).
If you are coming from the International airport at Sahar at
late night, depending upon the traffic, it should take you about
45 minutes to reach Hotel Oberoi. A little less time, if you are
arriving by domestic flights at the (separate but nearby)
domestic airport at Santa Cruz. If you are arriving by the Central Railway
at the CST Terminus (formerly known as VT), the hotel is about
15 minutes taxicab ride away. If you are arriving by Western Railway
at Mumbai Central, then the taxi-ride will be somewhat longer during
daytime, say: half an hour. The costs of taxicab fares to TIFR
from the airports and railway stations are mentioned in the "Getting
Here" page; the cost of getting to Hotel Oberoi should be less than
these, since Hotel Oberoi is closer than TIFR from any one of the
arrival ports/terminuses.
