Any department which needs access for up to 50 guests can communicate to CC through SRS one week before the date of the conference. For users more than 50 the communication should be at least 20 days before the conference..

The account will be generated and login credentials provided to the organizers two days in advance

The organizers have to maintain secrecy of the login credentials. No public display of user name and password is allowed. Organizers will be held responsible for any misuse of the internet service through the conference id provided. End user should strictly abide by the TIFR internet usage policy. Sharing or transfer of id and password outside the conference participants is not permitted.

The internet service will be disconnected on the last day of the conference

Id and password should not be distributed together in the same physical or electronic medium.

Do not share your password on email / web / to anyone. 

Please select password with minimum 8 characters and remember it and make it confidential.

5. In the server field please enter ntp.tifr.res.in

To comply with the M/s Microsoft license policy, users are required to purchase Windows 10 home edition or available version with every purchase of new desktops and laptops funded by the institute. This is applicable only to users who wish to use Microsoft products on their desktop / laptop during the lifetime of the equipment. 

Upgrade to higher versions of the operating system is possible and permitted through volume license upgrade, volume license subscription procured by institute every year, if the desktops / laptops are purchased with OEM license. 

CCCF personnel will have full rights to certify for the license compliance on every desktop / laptop funded by institute before issuing the license keys to upgrade / install the newer version of Windows and MS Office using the CD Distribution System application. 

Unauthorized usage of license keys by the borrower will be tracked and serious action will be taken. Students, postdocs and visiting scientists have to make their own arrangement for M/s Microsoft products on their personal machines.

The loadleveler policy is to ensure that all users are provided with resources to run their job. Depending on the user privilege, job will be queued to that class. All jobs have to pass through loadleveler.

A job queue is a list of jobs that are waiting to be processed. When a user submits a job to LoadLeveler, the job is entered into an internal database, which resides on one of the machines in the LoadLeveler cluster, until it is ready to be dispatched to run on another machine.

A list can be requested by dialling 2121 and submitting the list requirements as listed below or by sending an e-mail to listadmin at tifr.res.in. Lists must be requested by a Faculty or Staff member using their @tifr.res.in or @subdomain.tifr.res.in account and must contain the following information. Requests that do not contain each of the following non-optional information cannot be processed. There should be at least one list moderator email specified. The list moderators will be solely responsible for day-to-day operation of the list. Please provide the following information while requesting for a list to listadmin at tifr.res.in 
The name of the list, lower case without spaces. 
A short and descriptive list name.
A longer description of the list, which must be more descriptive than the name or the request will be rejected.
The list moderator's tifr email address. This will be the main person in charge of the list.

List messages will be archived at regular intervals for the members to refer to. Whether the list archive will be public /private? Public archives are accessible by anyone and private archives will have controlled access to only subscribed members of the list

Start at the Respective List Information page and follow the subscription instructions. A confirmation email will be sent and/or moderator approval may be required.

When replying to a message sent to a list the reply will be sent, by default, to the original sender of the message or to the list as per the list configuration.

The email message sent to the list is too large. This usually happens when the message contains an attachment that is larger than the allowed message body size.

Be sure that the list has at least one other list moderator who will be able to maintain the list during your absence.

You have content filtering enabled for this attachment type. Consult your list moderator. 

Administrator has to do the following

Use the Content Filtering section and add the correct mime type for the attachment being stripped to the pass_mime_type area. As an example, if your PDF document attachment is being stripped, add application/pdf to the pass_mime_type box and submit your changes. PDF attachments will now be allowed to the list. If you wish, all content filtering may be disabled for your list by choosing No in the Filter Content area.

Messages are automatically removed after seven days. Messages marked as spam-high that are pending moderator approval may be automatically removed at any time.

Lists with no activity for a year will be expired. On the expiry date, the list moderator/s will receive an email warning about list expiry. This expiration is needed to clear out old and forgotten lists that are no longer being used.

TIFR users can test the indico features by requesting an account on https://indicodev.tifr.res.in to get familiar with the available indico features for Seminars, Meetings, and Conferences.  

Indico conference organizers have to test the indico conference registration and  account handling by testing it at test indicodev and then creating it on live indico.  For any new indico accounts, indico admin requires confirmation from the event organizers to activate such accounts.

Indico conference organizers have to create a registration information page on the conference link. The registration page should have information about the indico registration for the participants.

Steps for the conference(s) require abstract submission:

Step 1. Participants have to create an indico account by visiting indico signup URL at https://indico.tifr.res.in

Step 2.  After account sign-up, participants have to send an email to organizers requesting their account activation. 

Step 3. Event organizers will review such emails and raise the SRS(www.tifr.res.in/SRS) for activating such requests.

Step 4. After the account is activated, users have to continue with the next step of registration.

9. Wait for 5-10 minutes to complete the installation. After successful installation, the dos screen disappears and AVG Business Security icon will appear on your dekstop.

10. Click on the AVG Business Security icon and check whether any of the components ask for the restart. if it asks, then restart your system.

11. After restarting the system, all the components should become active (green).

UNIX Binary Gaussian 09 Revision C.01 Installation instructions

1.  Check that you have the correct versions of the OS, and libraries for

    your machine, as listed in the file platform_c01.pdf file on G09 CD.

2.  Select a group which will own the Gaussian files. Users who will

    run Gaussian should either already be in this group, or should

    have this added to their list of groups. Consult your system

    administrator if you need help with this process.

3.  Mount the CD. Information about how to do this for various

    types of computers is given on the following page.

4.  Change to the C shell, and set the g09root and mntpnt environment 

    variables:

                             Mounting CDs

This page reviews the methods for mounting CDs on various UNIX systems.

LINUX: 

   Most Linux machines allow ordinary users to mount CDs into /mnt/cdrom,

   using a command like this one:

   $ mount /mnt/cdrom          # Prompt is % if you use tcsh

HP/COMPAQ TRU64:

  The mount command varies with the hardware configuration but is 

  usually something like:

  # /sbin/mount -rt cdfs /dev/disk/cdrom0c /mnt

  The command must be run by root. You can mount the CD from your ordinary

  user account using the following command:

  $  su -c /sbin/mount -rt cdfs /dev/disk/cdrom0c /mnt

  You can also use the sudo command if it is in use at your site. If you do 

  not have root access, ask the system administrator to mount the CD for you.

IBM AIX:

  The mount command is typically of the form:

  # /sbin/mount -v cdrfs -o ro /dev/cd0 /mnt

  The command must be run by root. You can mount the CD from your ordinary

Perform the following steps to install LabVIEW 2018 :

2. This link is available from TIFR LAN.
3. Fill up the guest registration form with the required details.
4. Please make a note of the userid and the password generated by the system / entered by you. You will need these credentials to connect to wireless network. 
5. For enabling multiple devices, key in multiple MAC addresses of the devices separated by comma. Please click here for some procedures to find the MAC Address of your device.
6. Submit the form.
7. System will send an email request for approval to your selected host at his/her TIFR email id.
8. To get a quick approval, if possible and the host is reachable, request your host to approve the request.
9. As soon as your host approves the request, your wireless connectivity will be enabled and you will be able to access the internet.
10. Now connect to TIFR-GUEST network using the device(s), which have been registered.

B. If the host at TIFR fills up the guest registration form

1. The guest registration form for wireless is at https://ccweb.tifr.res.in/AppAdmin
2. This link is available from TIFR LAN or through SSL-VPN.
3. Fill up the guest registration form with the required details
4. Please make a note of the userid and the password generated by the system. You will need to inform these credentials to the guest to connect to wireless network.
5. For enabling multiple devices, key in multiple MAC addresses of the devices separated by comma. Please click here for some procedures to find the MAC Address.
6. Click on SUBMIT.
7. System will send an email request for approval to your TIFR email id.
8. As soon as you approve the request, the guest will have the wireless connectivity enabled and will be able to access the internet.
9. Inform user to connect TIFR-GUEST network using the device(s), which have been registered.

2. The wireless connection for the guest will be enabled till the date TIFR host has approved it for.

1. This has to be initiated by the Guest in case he/she requires firewall port opening to a specific remote network for a defined period of time.

2. Log on to the URL https://ccweb.tifr.res.in/SRS with the login credentials (Username and Password) obtained at the time of guest registration.

3. Navigate to CC Services tab  “Request for Specific Firewall Policy Opening/Closing Port”.

4. Fill up all the details as per your requirement. If you have any doubt in filling this form, please contact CC at 2121.

5. System will send an email request for approval to your host.

6. Once your host approves, you will get an email that your request has been approved and will be processed by computer center through a service ticket. This process will take a maximum of two hours.

7. Once proccessed, you will get an email mentioning the status of your request.

How to connect to the wireless network profile

1. Make sure that wireless button on your device is turned on.
2. Browse for wireless network named “TIFR-GUEST” on your device and click on it.
3. [*] Select "Do not validate" for CA certificate. ["Perform this step from Nougat version onwards "]
4. Enter the following information in the Wireless Network you want to connect.

• Identity: Your username.
• Password: Your password.

1. Rest all settings remains the same. Click on Connect button to connect to the wireless network.

1.     Open the Settings app.

2.     Click on Wi-Fi & Internet.

7.     Click on Privacy and select "Use device MAC".

Click “SSH” in the Left side pane, Enter ssh -p 22 bob@158.144.196.34 in Remote command.

Where 158.144.196.34 is your remoter server and bob is the username on that server.  Please save session if needed frequently.

Enter the IP address of the remote server, username and password as shown below.

Click on “Advanced” and Select “Tunnel” under Connection in the left pane.

Tick mark “Connect through SSH tunnel”. Enter gwssh.tifr.res.in in host name and 4748 in Port number.

Give credentials username and password. Click Ok to connect.

Please save the session if needed frequently.

Please use following command to establish ssh connection via TIFR ssh gateway server and then use X application.

1. User who wants to avail the service has to send an email to cc@tifr.res.in with the following details
   1. Specific service required.
   2. Date and Place (if any) of service required.
   3. Any other relevant informatin.
2. The email has to reach CC at least 2 days prior to the service date.
3. On receipt of the user request, CC will examine the feasibility of service and mail back to user
4. It is the user's responsibility to confirm with CC over the receipt of request in case there is no response from CC on the request.

PBS is a job management system that allows users to run more jobs in less time by matching the job processing needs with the available resources. PBS schedules jobs, and provides functions for building, submitting, and processing jobs quickly and efficiently in a dynamic environment.

qsub  - submit a job                                                       
qstat  - query the status of jobs in the job queue                                                        
qdel - cancel a submitted job                                                        
 

A job queue is a list of jobs that are waiting to be processed. When a user submits a job to PBS, the job is entered into an internal database, which resides on one of the machines in the PBS cluster, until it is ready to be dispatched to run on another machine.                                                        
Submit a sample job, by entering the following command:                                                        
qsub job1.sh

Display the PBS job queue, by entering the following command:                                                        
qstat

Login in to cchpc19.tifr.res.in
                                                        
At $ prompt type passwd. It will prompt with (current) UNIX password:
                                                        
Key in your current password and press. It will prompt with Enter new UNIX password:
                                                        
Key in your new password to which you want to change. It will again prompt with Retype new UNIX password:
                                                        
Key in the new password again without any mistake. If you commit any mistake while retyping new password, it will not change your password displaying following error.

If the password is changed successfully it will simply return to the $ prompt.
                                                        
Note: Passwords with alphanumeric containing capital and small letters, numbers, special characters (total 8 characters) is a must for security reasons.

Initially users are allotted 10GB. Depending on the requirement, this can be increased to 100 or 200GB. Higher disk space allotted will be taken back if not used in two weeks. time.

Login to management server with your userid and password. 

Submit a job, by entering the following command:

Check status of your job:

3. Give the path of your input file in the PBS sample script

A PBS job script is divided in the 2 parts. First part is PBS parameters to be defined to get the required resources. Second part is your job code which will run by the PBS at computational nodes.

Below command in PBS job scripts seeking "select=1" i.e., one compute node and "ncpus=16" i.e., 16cpus for the job.

#PBS -l select=1:ncpus=16

Below command in PBS job scripts seeking "select=1" i.e., one compute node and "ncpus=1 and ngpus=1" i.e., 16cpus for the job.

PBS job queues are defined to shape the users queue as per the users job resource requirement. 

For example, a job which is large in terms of requirements of cpus and nodes are more then this queue should be submitted to the "large" queue. Similarly if a jobs run for long time then this job should be sumbitted to the "long" queue.

Below are the list of Job queues in cchpc19:

Run command "qstat -Qf" to list the latest queue parameters.

MATLAB standalone programs can be run as per the below steps

1. Sample Matlab program
   Save below lines as file name MyExample.m

function hello

disp('hello MATLAB');
h="hellocpu";

save helloresult.mat ,'h';
end

2 Compile the program as below

mcc -mv -R -nodisplay MyExample.m

The option -R says the next option is for the runtime program.  The runtime option -nodisplay says you don't need to open any graphics window.  We are not using graphics so we don't need it.

It will take sometime to create the MATLAB excuatble.

2. Above step will Generating file "run_MyExample.sh" in your working directory.

3. Create your PBS job script   
   Save below lines as file name pbs.sh

Same method can be used to run your MATLAB standalone compatible program without need of any additional MATLAB license.

Benefits of running your Matlab program at CCHPC19:

1. Access reliability: Standalone executables never fail due to license availability.

2. Parallel applications: Hundreds of independent runs are common for many applications. Using a standalone makes it possible to run these tasks concurrently.

3. Hide source code for intellectual property protection.

4. Multiple version of MATLAB could coexist at the same time.

5. Modular to load the MATLAB versions.

Module will allow users to set and unset the environments suited for user's application compatible compilers. Also it can set the applications needed to run user's codes.  Pl inform cc@tifr.res.in if you like to add any new tools under the modules.

Below are the steps to access the modules.

Step 1. Check the available modules

module avail

Step 2.  Select the required module

module load openmpi-3

Step 3. Check currently loaded module

module list

Step 4.  Unload/unset current loaded module

module unload openmpi-3

Computer Center(CC) backup system will store periodically backup of the users' files from the path "/home/*". These stored data will be kept as per the CC data retention policy.

Please note: Any files under the path of "/Scratch" file system will not backed up.

For example:  User  OPR files from the path "/home/opr" will be taken backup as per the backup schedules. But same user's files from the path "/scratch/opr" will not backed up.

Users are advised to keep the backup of their import data to local desktop periodically.

One of the settings is the environment variable GAUSS_SCRDIR which is required to redirect the temporary files that Gaussian uses to the proper scratch space, presently

export GAUSS_SCRDIR=/scratch/hpc-account 

where hpc-account stands for your username. If for some reason Gaussian does not terminate normally (e.g. a job gets cancelled), it leaves behind large scratch files which you may have to delete manually. To check if such files exist, type

$ ls $GAUSS_SCRDIR
Gau-88477.chk  Gau-88477.int  Gau-88477.skr  
Gau-88477.d2e  Gau-88477.rwf  

Once you have determined that the scratch files are no longer needed (because the program that used them is not running any more), you can delete them by typing

$ rm $GAUSS_SCRDIR/Gau-*
$ ls $GAUSS_SCRDIR
$

It is recommended to regularly clean up the scratch space. If it is not done regularly, it can cause jobs to terminate.

The login nodes is for compiling software and submitting jobs.  Users should not be running compute intensive processes on the login nodes as this affects everyone.  All jobs should be submitted to the queue.
