Chai and Why?

An informal discussions of interesting scientific issues outside a traditional academic setting in a Science Café format. "Chai and Why?" aims to engage the public who are interested in science but generally don't have an opportunity to interact and discuss their views with scientists and ask questions.

Chai and Why? is now in year 15, running without a break since the series stared in 2009. The sessions are held at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai on the 1st Sunday, at Ruparel College, Mumbai on the 3rd Sunday of every month and at Alexandra School, Fort, Mumbai if a month has 5th Sunday. Most of the sessions are also live-streamed on our YouTube channel and remain available. In the past 13 years, we have covered a wide range of issues relating to science and technology, and its connections to society.

In summer, special sessions aimed at children - covering for example science in the kitchen, playground etc. proved to be extremely popular. Apart from the regular scheduled sessions, some special Chai and Why? sessions have also been held at other venues around the city.

Just for count: 368 total sessions by the end of year 2022, 339 total sessions till year 2021. 310 sessions till year 2020 and 280 sessions till 2019.
